How to choose, cut and store avocados

Learn how to choose, cut and store avocados so they can be prepared for your favorite avocado recipe.
I love avocados and I’m known to eat them with a spoon. Below you will find my best tips for choosing the perfect avocado, preparing and cutting them, and storing them for later use.
Then you will be ready to make all my favorite avocado recipes! Some of my favorites are avocado salad, homemade avocado sauce, avocado egg salad and avocado pasta (yes, we use avocado to make the sauce!).
How to choose avocado
Are you tired of cutting into cooked avocados? Me too. That’s why I’m going to determine the best way to choose them. Unless you are lucky, the avocado you find in the store may take several days to ripen. So when shopping for avocados, planning ahead is a good idea. Here is a simple guide to determining when avocado is ready to be eaten:
- Gently squeeze avocado Use your palms to avoid scratching it with your fingertips. If a little is produced when pressed, you can eat it. If you feel strong and don’t give, it will take a day or two to mature. If it’s too easy to give, then it may be familiar, with brown spots inside.
- Check under the stem. Use your fingers to pull the stem to the top of the avocado. If it falls off easily and the area below is green, find the avocado ready to eat. If the stem is difficult to remove, it will take several days to fully mature. If the area under the stem is brown, the avocado may be overripe.
How to Cut avocado
When you think the avocado is ready, cut the avocado in half and cut the avocado in half. Make sure you have control over the avocado and know where those fingers are!

After cutting, twist and separate the two halves.
I have two ways to remove the seeds. Option one uses the knife. Fold the kitchen towel, place it in your hands, and secure the avocado in half. Then, knock the chef’s knife into the seeds. You will need some strength, but don’t impress it. Twist a little and remove the seeds. Remove the wider part of the knife (do not use the tip).

If you are nervous about using a knife to remove seeds, try using a spoon. It works very well. When you dig it out, you may lose a little avocado, but not too much, and do not involve sharp objects.

At this point, you can use a spoon to scoop out all the meat, or if you want to slice it, use a blade to cut into avocado meat without cutting through the external skin. We use avocado slices to add tacos, such as these chopped beef tacos.

Alternatively, make a cube by slicing in the opposite direction (lateral direction). Then, use a spoon to dig out the cut pieces. I do this when making avocado salad.

How to store avocado
If not ripe, store the whole avocado at room temperature. Place the ripe avocado in the refrigerator.
There are some other steps to keep in mind when storing cut avocados. The main goal is to minimize exposure to oxygen from avocados, which can cause the avocado to turn brown.
My first tip is to use a small amount of acid (such as sprinkling with lime or lemon juice). Then, wrap it tightly with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator. Avocados should be kept green for one or two days.

Another option is to put the seeds in. We don’t know all the details, but we’ve tried it and it worked! So put the seeds in and wrap them in plastic wrap. Likewise, avocados should be kept green for a day or two.
