Easy to Crispy Fried Garlic Recipe

Making crispy fried garlic is easy. In less than 15 minutes you will have crispy garlic and delicious garlic oil. Add crumb shortbread to stir fry, salad and pasta. Use oil for cooking meat and vegetables, stir-fry or bread dipping sauce.

Crispy fried garlic adds garlic kicks to almost anything. You will also leave behind a variety of super delicious garlic oil (I suggest it below).

You can make fried garlic or fried garlic slices. I’m showing two below.

How to make fried garlic

You need two ingredients to fry garlic: Fresh garlic and high heat oil (I like avocado oil).

The key to making this delicious crunchy garnish is to start with sliced or chopped fresh garlic. I like to use chopped garlic when making this recipe, but you can also cut the garlic into fries.

Once the garlic is ready, gently heat some oil in a small skillet or pan. You don’t need too much oil, enough to cover the garlic. Keep the heat at medium levels, as garlic can quickly turn from golden brown to burning, and the burning garlic tastes bitter.

Fry the garlic in oil in deep frying.

Be patient while watching and stir the garlic until it almost starts to turn light brown. When the garlic is light golden, transfer it and oil to a colander on the bowl and place it on a paper towel to drain more.

Now you have homemade crispy garlic sprinkled onto your favorite dishes, adding an addictive garlic flavor and lovely crispy crust.

How to use fried garlic

Fried garlic is a popular garlic for Southeast Asian dishes (known in Thailand as Krathiem Jiaw and TỏIPhi in Vietnamese). We loved it so much that we wanted to keep it at home. Adam and I often reach for it and love the garlic crunch it adds.

I tossed it over rice, salad, cooked vegetables, stir fry, curry, and even tacos. Whenever we thought a dish needed an extra salty flavor, we could buy crispy fried garlic. If you’re looking for something crispy but a little sweet, try these crispy scallions.

How to use garlic oil

Don’t forget the oil you use to cook garlic. We can save it! Since it has been sitting on a low heat, the fresh garlic smell has penetrated into the oil to make homemade garlic oil! Let the oil cool and store it in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to a month. Here are a few of my favorite ways to use it:

  • Whip some garlic rice – In this coriander lime rice or making garlic fried rice, change the oil to garlic oil.
  • Make garlic-infused vinegar and dressings. Swap the olive oil for your favorite dressing and use garlic oil. For example, when making homemade Italian dressings, I like to use garlic oil.
  • Make garlic mayonnaise! Use our homemade mayonnaise recipe, but swap the neutral oil for some or 100% garlic oil. We also have recipes for vegetarian mayonnaise if you prefer.
  • Make more fried garlic with garlic oil. When making fried garlic again, there is no need to start with a new oil.
  • Stir your favorite vegetables in oil. I like stir-fried cabbage, mung beans and zucchini. Garlic oil will take them to the next level.
  • Toast or toast with oil. I especially liked the idea when making the tomato bruschetta.
  • Drizzle on homemade pizza, I love this margarita pizza

My garlic tastes bitter, what should I do?

Sometimes, fried garlic can bring bitterness. Stopping the garlic from overcooking is crucial to prevent it. But even if you do everything perfectly, it will be a bit bitter. There is a clever trick to solve this problem with serious eating (and we have tried and loved it since we learned about it).

Meanwhile, season the cooked garlic with salt and sprinkle with some powdered sugar (you don’t need too much). Since you are using powdered sugar, it dissolves and balances any bitterness without making it sweet. Very smart.

If you like garlic, try our oven roasted garlic. We roast the whole garlic in the oven until soft and sweet. Or, try making our creamy garlic aioli. This is sacred. We also have a crispy fried shallot recipe that I love adding salads and soup.

You will need

20 garlic cloves, peeled and trimmed

1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil, rapeseed oil or avocado oil

Fine sea salt

1Cut or cut into garlic. When preparing garlic, you have two options: chopped garlic or thinly sliced garlic. We prefer chopped garlic, but the fried garlic slices are beautiful. Controlling the browning process of crushed garlic is easier, so if you have never tried this recipe before, it is recommended that you start with Minced.

2Place the strainer on a medium bowl and set aside, ready to drain after cooking.

3Pour the oil into a wide frying pan over medium heat. Add a small piece of garlic to the oil and observe the small bubbles forming around it. When they do, the oil is ready.

4Remove the test piece, discard it, and carefully slide the remaining garlic into the oil. Move the garlic on the pot with a wooden spoon.

5Continue stirring the garlic and cook until light golden color is 3 to 5 minutes. Do not leave the stove when the garlic is in oil, as it will brown quickly (make it bitter in taste).

6When the garlic turns light golden brown, pour the garlic and oil into the filter on the prepared strainer. Do this quickly so that the garlic doesn’t overcook. Don’t let the garlic sit in the oil for longer than it takes. It will continue to cook the garlic.

7Sprinkle drained garlic on a clean paper towel and season gently with salt.

8Once cooled, transfer the garlic to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a month. It can also be stored in cool dark areas of the kitchen. You can also keep garlic oil in the jar, in the refrigerator for up to one month.

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • storage: Once the garlic has cooled, you can transfer it to an airtight container and store it in a cool area of the refrigerator or kitchen for up to a month.
  • The facts provided below are estimates. Let’s assume the garlic absorbs about 1 tablespoon of oil.
