This breakfast is a great way to start a fun day of cooking and eating during the holidays or any other day of the year. Thanksgiving or Christmas, no matter the holiday morning, this is a delicious way to start the day all year round.

This oatmeal requires minimal fuss and will keep the family full until the day’s main eating event. Over the years this has become a tradition for our Thanksgiving breakfast.

We’ve been making oatmeal recipes for as long as I can remember, and we’ve been making this particular oatmeal for over 10 years. Holiday oatmeal is a favorite among adults and kids in our house.

Holiday Oatmeal

You will need the following ingredients for this recipe:

  • Old Fashioned Oats
  • milk or water
  • apple
  • dried cranberries
  • chopped pecans
  • kosher salt
  • thinly sliced ​​bananas
  • light brown sugar

To make oatmeal, combine oats, milk, apples, cranberries, pecans, and salt in a medium pot over medium heat. Bring to a simmer.

Cook, stirring frequently until oatmeal is thickened. This should take about 10-12 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in bananas. Put a tablespoon or so of brown sugar in a bowl.
